I was reading about the Magnum Smart Battery Combiner as a way to mix battery ages, specifications and/or types in a battery bank. It looks like it adds a point of failure & complexity but in exchange one would get the possibility of adding a small extension of even different type batteries to an existing battery bank. It looks like in a 24V bank, like mine, it can only provide 12.5 (or 25?) amps so the AUX bank would need to be small <= 200 Ah as a guess. Is anyone here using one of these Smart Combiners in a On/Off grid, on shore, system that has regular charge cycles? There is also one by Xantrex I think. Has anybody tried cooking up their own soleniod, or controlling one with one of these combiners, for this?
