Title: Use Boost Converter or Inverter for off-grid system?
Post by: USCGC3CEN on July 26, 2017, 02:19:31 PM
Adding a 48 VDC/110 VAC device to an off-grid 24 VDC system. Since the device can be powered either by an inverter (AC) or a boost converter (DC), could choose either. Load of the new device is only 50W.

Reliability is more important than efficiency, as the remote site is difficult to reach during winter. Could we use dual inverters/boost converters to increase reliability?

I would go with the 24 to 48v converter .
I just looked up to see what is on the market
This is one

There are lots of other brands  to choose from

USCGC3CEN,

Definutely the boost converter, it will be way more efficient that an inverter at that power level, also probably more reliable.
