Title: My MidNite Down?
Post by: Matrix on March 01, 2018, 09:08:43 PM
Is My MidNite Down again  today?  I saw the banner for February 26th, but my midnide stopped working for me again today at 10:58 a.m. I have no log data after that time. My local app is still working ,  and I know I have an internet connection, because  I'm posting this  response. Anybody else having an issue?

Same here. I really love this company and just bought two more classics but on my next buy I’m thinking time to try another brand; it 2018. Reliable Remote monitoring and logging is not a neat add on but a must have feature.

The company that handles the International servers decided to do maintenance on both our main server and our backup lines at the same time.

Not the greatest plan.

MM2 is back up and functioning correctly.

I tried it again this morning, and same result as above.

I then tried https://159.203.65.201, and it worked.

Tried https://mymidnite2.com again, and it worked as well!

One of the mysteries of the web I guess.

PS. Might be time to remove the 26th Feb banner? - It's OK: I UBlocked it!

Mine has been down for 2 days now. I tried this IP address https://159.203.65.201, but no joy. Any other solution or resolution?

Ok, it's working now after trying the IP address a couple more times.

Thanks

I still get errors using your domain name but the IP address is working for now.

DNS propagation issues ?

I have been trying for several days and getting the error that the website encountered an unexpected error.   "PDOException: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2003] Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111) in lock_may_be_available() (line 167 of /var/www/drupal-7.56/includes/lock.inc)."   For me I don't think I have been able to get anything to show since March 1 or 2.   I have 6 classics and it is nice to use the mymidnite to check on them.

Ditto - unsuccessful comm with MyMidnite. In addition to the "PDOException: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2003] Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111) in lock_may_be_available() (line 167 of /var/www/drupal-7.56/includes/lock.inc)."

I am getting unsafe security warnings from Chrome, and "Forbidden" messages in Firefox.

My Sunnyportal.com (SMA) is still communicating to my system, and creating graphs for my offsite consumption.

The web page minus data is back for me, but it will sit and spin for a while and then give me a AJX HTTP error with an OK.  After this it will spin some more and then another error unable to contact the server with OK and no data comes up.   I have had similar experience in the past, but normally trying it several times,  I can usually get it to come up.   Seems like it is trying to pull the data, but times out.   I have wondered in the past if it was due to the fact of having 6 classics and it is trying to pull of the data for all of them and timing out.   Anyone else seeing this behavior or have multiple classics in one user account?

Midnite solar has excellent customer service, especially when it comes to your hardware. Everyone here loves you guys. !

With that said, the web integration does not work reliably and has had intermittent issues for years. These are documented pretty well on this forum.

To my knowledge, Midnite does not and has not posted updates about when the service is "up" or "down" to its website, twitter account, FB account, support ticket site or the MM2 website itself. (the current banner that is up notes an outage on Feb 26th, the second half of this thread is devoted to issues not related to that point).

People are posting here because it is reliability the fastest way for the community to understand if there particular browser / ISP is not playing well with the site as coded.

Reading through the the threads above the issues folks are having are "old" issues that you can work around by using a different browser, trying the "go direct to IP address trick" or other various computer voodoo.

I've got an issue still but I will email you directly regarding it.

Kind Regards

Eben

Online monitoring has been extremely slow and might work every 3 or 4 tries for the last few months.  Recently my computer was running slow with 100% CPU usage, looked at the task manager and it was the Chrome page running Mymidnite.

I can connect to the site and view past data with no problem, but my classic has not logged any recent data to the site since 17:20 yesterday (5/24/18). I can remotely connect to my classic over the internet via 'Classic Monitor' on my android phone, so I know the internet connection my classic uses is fine.

Title: Re: My MidNite Down? Server needs to be provisioned for more BW and processing
Post by: rfdude on May 26, 2018, 10:33:35 AM
I have a site with three charge controllers.... so when I visit mymidnite2 server, it is rare that all three will show up without the server choking along the way and dropping the request.  And now we are seeing lack (or loss?) of incoming data to their server... as a controller can show up on the screen and the process completes, but with flatline data.  That's pretty bad if data is actually being lost.  As previous posters similarly point out for their units, my controllers are reachable via IP directly using Classic 4 Plus software, so they are alive and well.

Watching this performance trending worse over the last year, I've concluded it is choking on increased customer demand, while the server provisioning remains static.  Perhaps this feature is only a free hobby service for customers.  Everyone has been patient, but there hasn't been any uproar in this forum either.  It is what it is.  More cycles on a virtual commercial server costs more money, which might not translate directly into sales.  Evidently, this hasn't been a priority for Midnite.

I'd ask Midnite to clearly state their intentions.  Then customers can accept it, or roll their own monitoring solutions, instead of anticipating (forever) that Midnite will improve their solution.

So mymidnite must have been receiving and storing the data, just not displaying it.

No data showing from May 25th for me. I can remotely access the controller so internet is functional. Any ideas?

I stand corrected. It never showed, however, many reloads later and a bit of waiting and bam, it appeared. Something funny going on with the backend I guess.

Yes we are showing some latency across the server but it is catching up. There is a lot of data being updated, so it might take a few tries to get your info to come up.

I reckon 80% of the time mymidnite returns screwed up data or just throws an Ajax error. It’s becoming fairly useless.

Agreed. I've been frustrated by that AJAX error for months now. But at least, with enough refreshes, I got my data.

Now this new missing data error has shown up, and it can take me 20 refreshes before I see my data. More likely than not, I get either the ajax error or missing data.

I realize that the online monitoring is a free feature, but even so, the ability to monitor my Classic on the Internet was one of the reasons I chose it.

Having a bit of experience in setting up online style services like this there are really only two ways to do it:

1. Do it well and ensure it is reliable.
2. Don’t do it at all so you do not tarnish a good product by providing a bad service.

Unfortunately point one quite often costs a lot of money not just to set up but to keep running and keep pace with growing demand. I don’t see a lot of good services like this last very long.

I hope midnite do point one but if they can’t bin it please. The local app by Graham is terrific. Maybe scrap the web front end reduce data storage and tie it in with the Android app for internet based access. Appreciate the effort though.

Thanks for the discussion. It helps to know that others are having data refresh problems.  :-[

I'm having to query, 3 or 4 times, login out and then back in, before the data will come over but when it does, it is a glorious thing!
-------------------------------
I'm new to solar and to Midnite controllers. I was quite surprised to find that wi-fi connectivity was not built in to the unit (Classic 200V) but got over that mental hurdle and purchased an additional wi-fi bridge. It added to the whole system cost but was well worth it.

My suggestion is to put the time and money into improving the whole "my midnite" service. If that means discontinuing the on-module support for the graphing or the wired Ethernet connection, so be it.

My preference would be either that or connecting in to a phone-based application, such as Blynk, that also allows full data downloads, as requested.

Just my two cents . . .

Please KEEP the wired ethernet connection. Wifi is sometimes wonderful, and sometime unstable as hell, has penetration problems with metal and masonry construction, opens additional attack surfaces, and subject to interference.

I want rock solid stability for a critical infrastructure. Others may want wifi, that's fine, but I definitely would not use it if available.

Well if we can believe past hints from a long time ago Midnite is suppose to be working on a Com box of some type that would have a built in Web Server of some type that you would connect to.
Have not heard anything more about since Ryan departed. Although I thought I heard Robin make a reference to a Com box a little while back.

Have no idea if it is real or just taking a back burner to all the other projects. Here's hoping its still in the works.

Still working on a few bugs. The data on the page might have some latency here and there but it will get better.

Monday the 20th, and still just the spinning wheel followed by the pop up error message. Over and over.

I am told that it is not really any worse than it was after the crash but I have passed this link to engineering to get some input

It is back up right now and correctly displaying data.

I am thinking it is a gateway time out issue as the pattern of what one has to do is almost identical each time.... that little dial spins and  spins .... and gives one of 3 results, ALL data, some data or no data
the 'some data ' can be a truncated piece of what you have already seen and that is most annoying when you refresh and get less!

I have gotten nothing all day except the timed out message. My Midnite is not working at all for me.

Did you send in an email to the webmaster as stated in the AJAX error message  or Kyle?

The 500 (internal server error) means something went wrong on the server's side.

This is a very generic error the only good thing from the customer perspective is that this error is always a server side problem.

In this case it is a latency issue. There is a massive amount of data being pushed through our servers and we are having troubles keeping up.

We have our team working on the issue and I know you are all tired of hearing this but the only thing we can do is wait for the team to get it working.

Sorry

Thanks no problem. Working today. It's never a deal-breaker for me, just thought Midnite solar might want to know.
