I have a Classic 150 and the latest version just downloaded of the local app for Windows. The app finds my Ckassic 150, displays stays, etc. The Windows PC also has a good internet connection.
But when I go config -> settings, and select 'update now' where it says check for update, after several seconds it errors: "An error occured while trying to update"
I currently have classic version 2079 and network version 2073.
What am I overlooking or doing wrong? Thanks!
I think the update button on the Local App is to update the Local App only. And I don't think it ever worked.
To update the Classic FW, you have to use a USB cable and a downloaded file, and a rather complex method to configure the installer software.
You can find the latest Classic Firmware Update, and instructions, here:

Any suggestions for WinXP or Win8.1 os ?
I have my old XP laptop configured to install older updates, would it still install the more recent updates too ?
Used to be able to update the Local App but there hasn't been any updates for a long time now.
I'm pretty sure that update that gave you the error was for the Local App. Not for the Classic.
The others are correct about updating the Classic using USB.

As boB mentioned the update you found was intedned for the Local App but as that was deemed end of life a while back the server that hosts the updates was shut down. The Error doesn't hurt anything it is just the Local Apps way of saying it can not find the server to check for an update.
But also, I think that what is on our main midnitesolar.com web site is the latest and greatest Local App software
I agree that the online mymidnite app is wonderful and much better to visualize the data etc., it is not able to change any settings locally which is where the local app shines. I use both... just not for the same thing.
