Title: What size wire from controller to battery
Post by: Regeaux on May 08, 2021, 06:42:28 PM
I'm setting up my solar system with a used Midnite Solar Kid. What size wire do you run from your controller to the battery? I have tried 4 AWG and 6 AWG and both of those were too big.

Thanks,

Hi Regeaux,  welcome to the Forum,

The largest cable that can connect to the terminal block,  inside for the KID PV  and battery connections is #10 AWG THHN building wire (NOT Fine Strand cable).

It is possible,  that the chassis that the KID can mount into  might have the capability  of accepting larger cable.  If not,  you could use #10 AWG from the KID terminal block,  to your battery circuit breaker,  and a larger cable from the battery side of that breaker,  to the battery.   Larger cable is usually better,  especially on 12 V systems.

FWIW,   Vic

Here is a wiring diagram for Kid that shows  using some external breakers and terminal blocks  which lets you transition to larger wire sizes from 10 gauge if needed .
