Title: How many watts - solar panels
Post by: jhagg on July 13, 2021, 02:20:09 PM
I currently have my KID connected to 2 - 100 watt flexible solar panels on my boat to charge to my 4 - wet cell Costco 6v golf cart batteries wired in series parallel for 400 amp hour at 12volts. This set up has worked very well for the past few years, but the solar panels are several years old now and seem to be less and less effective. I'd like to switch to 2 rigid 200 watt panels, can the KID handle the 400 watts of solar?

Hi jhagg,  Welcome to the Forum.

Little time right now,  but  run your proposed solar panels through the KID String Sizing Tool:

In my experience, yes the Kid can handle 400 watts on a 12 volt system.  You will be limited to 30 amps if your panels provide maximum energy.
