Haven't bought batteries yet - can I use a 12v car battery to test it?

Thanks Dave. No offense taken here. I've got some old 12v car batteries in the garage I'm going to try to use just after I charge each one separately with a battery charger. Now I'm wondering if I could charge all 4 batteries if I hooked them up in parallel to the battery charger...

Not ideal but worth a try nothing dangerous there, but do check voltage on each , try ones maybe 9 volts, if one is 11 volts and one is 0 volts you could get some current flow on connection.

Best course would be to charge each by itself.
