new debian support for cubie

so it seems that Debian mainline now supports allwinner and specifically cubie 1 2 and 3. Howto is here: http://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Allwinner#Installing_from_an_SD_card_image

Sata boot is supported, havent tried it yet, but will soon.

Mmm, very good to know, thanks for updating.
I have still the previous version of Cubian running on my Cubieboard II in NAND, which has been quite good.
I had looked previously at loading up Arch Linux, but I don't think it was quite ready yet.

My Cubie is feeling a little unloved lately, so I'll check out the links and soak what I can up

Cubian was falling behind the times and I want to still be able to do some things with my CubieII, so, I found and installed Armbian.
Armbian has three versions, legacy kernel, vanilla kernel images and an image with desktop GUI features.

I went and installed the newer vanilla kernel and it was a total breeze to setup and have going.
It looks to be well supported and Igor, who was on the Cubieboard forums is one of the main developers for Armbian, such a wizard he is

Well, does that mean with  Armbian you got WIFI working?

Did it include a browser compiled this century? IceWeasel is a non starter as a modern browser, IMHO.

Those were my main unconquered hurdles to using it as a desktop. However, it was pretty easy to install, for sure.

As it was I decided it was not up to snuff as a desktop. Yet.

I do agree Debian/Cubian has gone to seed.  Stuck in a rut not keeping current, so to speak.

Just my opinion not shared by all.

Agreed, Armbian is where its at right now.
