What would cause a FW update to retain previous version number?

I did a FW upgrade from 2056 to 2074, http://www.midnitesolar.com/firmwareReport.php?firmware_ID=17&firmwareProduct_ID=1&act=edit
and suspected something was not right in the way it performed , or didn't perform, when trying to connect to MM V3.

So I deleted and  downloaded the Installer again, and installed  FW V 2074 again.
After that Andrew was looking at some of the communication records, he saw my Classic had called in but could not communicate with the server (program) as is/was known about that version of FW and I used the old MM connection...

Apparently it still is acting like the 2056 version, in spite of thee fact that the MNGP shows
FW V. 2074  NetW 2073  GP 2054
KID FW1811 560W >C&D 24V 900Ah AGM
CL150 29032 FW V.2126-NW2097-GP2133 175A E-Panel WBjr, 3Px4s 140W > 24V 900Ah AGM,
2 Cisco WRT54GL i/c DD-WRT Rtr, NetGr DS104Hub
Cotek ST1500 Inv  want a 24V  ROSIE Inverter
OmniCharge3024  Eu1/2/3000iGens

Not sure what you mean when you say deleted. If you just went in and deleted the MidniteSolar directories and files let me offer a better way to make sure the files and any registry entries are removed.

Always go to the MidniteSolar folder in C:\ and look for the Uninstall file and run it. Use this not the MS add remove programs.

Here is what I would do:

I would run the Uninstaller file from what is in that directory now.

Go to boB's FTP site and get 2056 if you don't have it. I always keep a copy of the past version on my laptop.

Install 2056 on laptop and then run Uninstaller from the C:\MidniteSolar directory.

Then install 2074 on your computer and run this firmware update on your Classic and do a VMM.

To be honest I don't know where Andrew is seeing the old version # at. It could be a bug that the 2074 isn't updating a Modbus register correctly.
But the best practice is to Uninstall not deleted programs.

Good Luck

I suspect what Andrew is seeing is just old data. If the MNGP says it is 2074 then it is 2074

Well actually it's a bit easier than that, when you down load the new version and try to install it, there is a message that tells you there is a version there and it recommends to remove the old version first and then gives you an option to delete, click YES or OK, and away it goes and then you have to start the installer again to finish the job... see attachment, it's supposed to fit here..

He is accessing data from the server I believe.

ADD:
I just reloaded the MNupdater on my laptop and when you say YES  everything but the previous version (2056) CTL files are blown away...there  are 4 of them...

Me too !

If the MNGP says it is 2074 then it is 2074

but the MNGP said 2054  ?? that is the strange part...

I will confirm after the next attempt to update the FW / MNGP

Yes the MNGP will be 2054 that was the last update to the MNGP, As long as Classic code says 2074 you are good

Both methods should work. Uninstall method removes all files including the directory.
