Dave Jones did a detailed analysis in case you haven't seen it.
His main point is why spend the money on solar roadways instead of regular solar which costs a lot less and has better performance.

I watched the "Full Dave " .
I agree , huge money for a fancy solar way .

If that was done here in Canada , the new road has less that 3 years before it's got a stitch or needs to be torn up in a section because something was forgotten or needs changing  ..

I haven't seen the SUN for 3 days straight in 4 months ..

Larry, yes I remembered the hexagon 'panels' he based that first video on but could not recall its location....mostly wondered why?  when it can be made to work but at what cost?

VT: same low light up here, have to head to the big smoke  :( for NYE,
back to the north on Jan 2..  :)  Will head out to asses the incoming after that..  :o   8) or  >:( ?

This goes in my personal filing system under

Stupid ideas even my dog would have seen as unworkable.

Pretty silly idea from the start. Modules along side the road, sure, but not as the road. The same cash put into simple pole mount arrays would be producing today and every day the sun was shining.

Severely mismanaged R&D resources. Someone got financially enhanced, but no practical application was developed. Plus, it gives solar a bad reputation because most people only see that it is a solar project that failed not the stupid idea it was to start.

I still hear local folks regurgitate that old argument that solar panels use more energy resources to build than they can provide over their lifetime when they ask about our install which happens to be the first residential grid tied install here.

Just from someone who invested sensibly in a working solar install that produces every day the sun comes up, even with clouds or overcast skies.

end rant.

i totally agree tom, but it was a basic scheme they cooked up to reap the $ from the brainiacs (note: severe sarcasm here) in government.

as to those that claim solar doesn't give back the resources it uses in its manufacture i totally disagree and isn't it funny they never cite sources for this so called claim. my biggest argument with such idiots is in asking them what it is they buy that does give back more in resources than it takes to make? a pv is one unique item that does give back as very few manufactured items are even capable of giving anything back at all. this especially applies to their cars be they regular, hybrid, or total electric (unless on solar) so why bash something as positive as a pv?

I would consider solar panels far more "cost effective" than the amount of cost/pollution involved building a dragline, haulout trucks, railway tracks, coal fired power station, power lines etc etc as well as the amount of fossil fuel used at all stages of the process!
The greeny brigade will all bag anything that does not suit their agendas.

It seems that, in the early days, solar modules may well have required more energy to build than they could produce over their lifespan. And this is where folks get this idea.

Today, I see it as simply another silly bit of "false news" like we seem to be inundated with these days.

I don't argue with such people because it ain't my job to drag them through the knot hole of knowledge.  :o

Just from here.

The other point is that the huge amount of cash spent on the development and "living expenses of the  developers" could have built a huge
solar farm as well as storage type facilities and distribution network for a small community! (probably a not so small community)
With a positive return to the taxpayers who have put their hands in their pockets to fund the other farce after the politicians put their hands in the taxpayers pockets of course. :o ;D
A sad state of affairs for the renewable energy program.

So don't get a patent on their  over unity magnetic spinning generator and the government won't be able to take it away. Sounds simple enough . But then we wouldn't have any conspiracy theories.
