I have tried everything in the manual to make it work but they don't see each other.

I have two set up in twin mode and it was probably the easiest of all settings for me. Maybe you have a bad cable between the two?

It say's it requires a 4 pin phone cable, should it be a 6 pin? the connector on the kid is a 6 pin.

The Kid controller does require only 4 wires to ommunicate but some phone cables are reversed from one end to the other end......same as 8 wire RJ-45 Ethernet cables......to spot the difference lay the cables side by side......some will have both locking tabes on the same side..(reversed polarity)....others have the locking table on opposite sides...(same polarity)....

6 wire cables will work......the Kid (and Classics) only uses the center 2 pairs.....

So does it need to be reversed between ends?

There's a YouTube video explaining the cable for connecting multiple units.
