Battery replacement in a classic

Seems I read somewhere about replacing a button cell battery in the classic controller. I have been trying to find out which battery it takes. I shut my system down for the hot Baja summer and use a small panel and controller to maintain the batteries. I have the feeling the battery will need replacing, come this Fall when I fire it back up. the Classic is about 6 years old now.
Can I get some guidance on this?

My battery has lasted 5 years - they go a long time .
Someone just mentioned in a different thread
a 1216 coin battery in the MNGP
I can't confirm right now but it says in the manual.

I am not at a place where I can verify the battery number at the moment, but someone will see this and respond. I do believe it is the 1216 though. Then again that may be the battery in my soap dispenser that plays Christmas music in Hawaii?

If the Classic is not running, the battery will die after 6 months or so. It will run without the battery, but all the time and calendar stuff will be wrong.

The manual states that it is indeed a CR1216.

Thank you all. I'll dig deeper in the manual.  Any hint what page? I went through it yesterday but only skimmed. I also tried searching here but so many threads have the word "battery? in them it was futile.

Be sure to use the local app to back up the registers (settings) before you swap.  The LA makes restoring very easy

I had a wireless mini router connected when this controller was in the states to access the local app. Now the CC is in Baja and I don't have the home wireless network. Is there a way to get the local app through my phone? I still have the mini router and can connect it.   I'm not real computer savy so I get lost in all the computer terminology.

Yes, it goes in the MNGP. With the MNGP removed from the classic, you will see a small tab on either side of the unit. Hook a fingernail on the right side tab and gently pull the face plate away. It should pop right off, don't pull too hard because there is a speaker wire that stays connected. The battery holder is on the right side of the circuit board just below the display screen. Use caution when reseating the front cover to not pinch the speaker wires.

Sunshine, This post should be a ''sticky'' so it stays at the top of the list...

If you have a router that you can plug the Midnite ethernet line into , and you connect your phone to the same router via wifi , the Local Status App should be able to find the Classic on the network . Though it also helps if you know how to get into the router to see which address DHCP assigned to it so you can put that address into the Local Status App on the phone. I haven't used the Android version of the Local Status app much so don't know how well it works. But if  you just want to monitor Grahams Android  Classic Monitoring app works great and finds the router on the network .
