Hi George,

Still,  what you are asking is not too clear;

Are you asking if there is such an Error Code?

OR,  are you saying that you are seeing such a Code,  and would like to know just what to do?

I know nothing of such a Code.

When one turns OFF the PV in and the battery breaker,   and then turn ON the battery breaker again,  during the Boot process,  the internal fans will run for several seconds,  which can be heard ...

Hi Vic,
I was thinking that maybe on the next firmware release Midnite might be able to put a self diagnose for the cooling fans.
For example if one of the fans has a problem it could give us a heads up on the mngp.

The issue is the fans don't have a tach wire to monitor rpms.  Using FET & PCB temperatures would not work always, I have talked with customers that are running close to 80C on the FETs with 105F outside air temp.

Maybe fan current overdraw?

Just putting my thoughts out here.

The fans usually draw more current right before the bearings seize?

Hi George...

The problem is that these is no fan current detection or tachometer hardware inside the Classic which makes it kind of hard to detect a defective fan.

Overheating of the Classic is one good indication.  Sound is another although the turbo fan is usually somewhat (too) noisy.

At least the fans aren't too difficult to replace nowadays.  The newer chassis/castings have a fan access plate on the bottom side.

Sorry about the no bad-fan detection.  It's a very good idea though.

That great, George.

Next controller will have this feature.  We did add variable turbo fan speed into the Classic though.

I can't remember the serial numbers or date exactly but variable fan speed has been in there for about
a year or year and 1/2 now ?

Hi I have 3 Classic 250's..2 about 5 years old and 1 about 1 year old. I took a closer look at the 3 classics I have. It is pitch black out now and on the 2 older classics, they are now in resting mode all 3 fans are running. (Turbo fan might be off--hard to tell but definitely the fet fans are running.) On the newer 1 year old classic, it also is in resting mode and all fans are off. So it is an issue with the old classics. I installed the latest firmware yesterday from the webpage hoping this would solve my problem... It seems like the fans in the older classics never did turn off as I said earlier the fans under the fet bus in each older classic were seized and I had noticed this when I went in to replace the noisey turbo fans. Do you know if something can be done? It seems like turn them off in resting mode and on when in normal mode would work fine....Wonder if anyone else has noticed this?

I may have previously saved the classics as I have a large fan in the building that turns on and blows on the classics when the building temp gets around 85 F.

Do the engineers monitor this forum? Hope something can be done.

Thx,

garry

I gave my points on your constant run fans , with your first post.
As with a fan sensing , since they now have  variable fan speed on the later ones ,I thought the newest one had a bum /weak fan till It got warm & came on strong ..
# wire & 4 wire fans in small size are not common but out there for the fancy puters .
That would be nice. I hear my fans & thats a good SOUND !!
