Classic 150 Strange behaviour

So I go out to my power room in the afternoon a few days ago to find just one of my classics has been taking all the load for the day and the other 2nd classic is sitting in (solar OFF mode) So I thought that's strange and set it back to solar ON. The unit started outputting power and sharing the load.

The next day I go to check on it again and it's in (Solar off mode again) So I set it back to (Solar ON) and watch it over the day. This classic has one of the two internal fans not working (I'm in the process of getting a replacement) So I started thinking perhaps it was getting hot and shutting down. So I monitored it all day as it produced just over 20kwh for the day and not once did its temps get over 48C and it cycled between 48C - 44C over the day with the one working fan keeping things in check (turbo fan never cycles as it doesn't get hot enough) So that kind of ruled that out.

So then again this morning I went out to check and its turned its self back to (Solar OFF mode) >:( though this time its also saying MPPT EQ when I turned it back to (solar On mode) !!! I don't even have any EQ set on my classics as I use lithium cells and never want to EQ them.

So what could be going on why is my classic turning its self to (Solar off mode) overnight and even today turning it's self to EQ mode is it possessed?

Very concerning after it has worked flawlessly for over 5 years straight.

Kurt.

Looking over the online logs for today the classic went into resting mode overnight as it usually would do. Showed resting until 9am when I set (solar OFF mode) back to (solar ON) then showed status as (Unknown 18) as it went to EQ mode.

I just tried doing a Bully reboot to see if I could get it to trigger the strange behaver after rebooting. Though it just rebooted and went straight to MPPT Bulk  all as normal.

Will See how I go over night if I wake to it in (Solar OFF mode ) again and the strange MPPT EQ when I turn it back to (Solar ON mode).

Hopefully it behaves its self.

Kurt, do they both have the same FW version and is it up to date?

Hi Wesrbranch,
Yes both have the same FW version and have been updated over the years though not completely up to date with the latest version. Was just sticking to what has been very stable for the past year or so.

After some forum searching. I believe the (EQ starting by its self) is potentially a firmware issue that could have been triggered when I hit the soft keys to turn solar mode back to on.I have now set My EQ is set low at V absorb and time is set to zero so not to concerned about that.

My main concern is why that controller is turning it's self to (solar off mode) by its self over night for the past few nights.

I have activated a bully reboot on both controllers and will see if (solar off mode) tomorrow morning.

As you can see this classic has been performing fine starting up each day and charging for years. Then all of a sudden turning its self to (solar off mode)

Are those Classics in Follow me mode ?  If so , try doing VMM reset on them and that may fix it. Seems like I heard about some error that may accumulate over time in follow me mode and the hard reset will clear it back to normal. Not sure what you mean by bully reboot - it has to be full reset like VMM or jumpers will do.

Larry, that is one of the option settings in the MN LApp...

Ys they are in follow me. I am assuming the bully reboot option in the MN LApp is the doing something simular to a VMM. Though I will see if it happens tomorrow and try a VMM as a 2nd option.

It's a little strange as again it has charged all day today after I turned it back to (Solar on mode) and will most likely go to resting soon as the sun is just going down. I have them set to auto reset at midnight and the logs show it resting over night but switching to (solar off mode ) by its self at some point is a odd one.

I guess I could go out to the power room tonight at 11:59 and see if its switching over after the midnight reset . Though why now after all this time.

Ok I just did a VMM on both classics. So I will see how we go tomorrow.

Thanks for the VMM tip Larry  :)

Looks like that VMM has set things back to normal operation today. I guess some times it's easy to forget that the classic is a small computer running 24/7 for years on end. The odd reset/reboot is probably a good preventative maintenance procedure. I know if I haven't rebooted my I phone for several weeks/months strange things can happen like Bluetooth wont function or camera wont open, perhaps a simular style accumulate error situation. A full reboot and it's back to normal.

Another thing I did think of was. I replace the coin cell battery on both classics as a every  24 month preventative measure just a few days ago. So perhaps that to could have required a VMM to reset things.

Now just need to get that dead internal fan fixed and I'm all systems go .

Hope that the VMM fix continues to hold for a few more years.
