My portable shop in rented shipping containers;
These containers are rented, no drilling holes allowed. The milk crates are full or sandbags for wind hold down. The upper stays are bolted into the corner stacking pockets.
Outer 4 panels are Sharp NE-170's and the inner 2 are Sharp pre production prototypes of the NE-165 so are very close in VOC, VMP and IMP.

The arrangement with the 2X4's keeps the weight off the roof and prevents cold spots thereby preventing condensation from forming inside.

A few pic's from the back,

Rails are way old Ironridge.
Note the rail extenders.....they are frames from old Seimens SM-55's that failed the falling oak test, old solar panels are still useful even when smashed by 2 ton oak!
Hold down hardware is current production Ironridge bought from NAWS, Rails are used from a system that had failed , purchased for scrap prices, 20 of the NE-165's with the rails thrown in for free!
There were 2 burned connectors on adjacent panels in one string so whole system was scrapped and replaced. I bought it for scrap aluminum price, I win all the panels are in use , 4 had the bypass diodes shorted but I opened the junction boxes and removed the diodes on those panels. They work fine.

I have always wanted  a shipping container for a shop or something.

Maybe some day when I have a piece of land to put it on.

WB,

These two are 20 footers, my own container shop is a high cube 40 footer. Am now in the process of major upgrade of the solar on it. It will be the system formerly installed on the Corralitos workshop which was torn down to make way for the new house that was built there.

boB,

Azzie's storage is a customer of mine. I paid only $1300 for a cherry high cube 40 footer fresh off the shipping docks. They are pretty bullet proof as far as theft. Easily transportable, and the local government has no way of taxing portable shops. If you do get one do put in some ventilation, they do sweat. All in all cheap rent!

How did you put in the ventilation ? Windows  or fan ?

I got a box off a truck last year for my shop - it is 8 x 8 x 18  probably not as solid as the containers you have but a lot lighter. I put it up on some posts on the ground since it is in wet soil area and would have sunk in. So far only have taken off the back roll up and  put in a regular door and I insulated the floor . I would like to rebuild the roof since it is fiberglass and has some dips in it . So I need to cut that off and frame up something with 2 x 4's and then insulate - wanted to make it pitched 45 degrees so I could mount some panels on it. Progress has been slow on that part of it !  Carpentry isn't my best skill but I keep plugging away at it .

My  truck box roof would never hold that load on it !

Larry,

Look close on the pic's......all the load is on the outside rails. That is what the 2X4's spanning all the way across are for. The outside edge has a 2X2 running longwise under the milk crates. These containers are rented so not allowed to drill, bend ,staple or otherwise mutilate. There is no fixed ventilation on these. My 40 footer has welded boxes with turbine ventilators which have automobile radiator fans mounted under for non windy days. Azzie's not only rents containers but we also modify them, roll up doors in the side, entry doors etc. I only do electrics for Azzie's but that includes delivery trucks with custom roll up beds, Caterpillar electric forklifts , the AC services to all the buildings, etc.
I'll post some pic's of custom metal work done here.

And some custom fab being done at Azzie's

This was a 40 foot high cube (9'6" ceiling inside) standard is 8 foot, cut it in half, welded in new ends, roll up doors in sides. Walla Two 20 foot custom high cubes........20 foot high cubes are extremely rare.   Ok so I weld too, but that is not me in the pic, that is Manuel, one awesome welder!
One pic of each one, they are still in fabrication.  Need a custom one.....Azzie's can do it!

David

<edit> note that the second one has no end doors, only the roll up. It is the front end of the other one.
