No go - guess I have to get a mega and one of those shields if I ever want to get it to work. I spent way too much time on this now !

A possibility is that the RJ12 cable you have might not be a data cable (straight through) but a cable that crosses over. I can't tell by reading if you have tested for that or not. I have a RJ12 cable that I had to buck into and resolder the wires to get it to go straight through......Not pretty but it works.

My first thought was no way but you know - I did cut off the connector and put on a new one - though I thought I had checked it. Looking now at the colors of wire in original photo on my first post and at the connector here - it does look like I may have put it on backwards. But when I first started doing my hookups I figured it was backwards because I had taken the voltage of 9v and ground. But I reverted back on the last go around. So you may be on to something . Thing is that the MNGP worked with it so that is why I thought it was okay.

Anyway I may go get the stuff I put away and have another go at it - it sure seems like I had tried every darn combination there was in all the hours I had been messing with it - but not for bottom jack last go around with it. I would love to get the dumb thing working !!!
I will report back.  May have burned out all my RS232 adapters since I had felt some of the chips getting really hot .

So good advice Will - I have stubborn determination but was sure thinking that was getting the better of me on this !

Okay  - redone rechecked resoldered all my connections  - still no luck - maybe cause I have fried my rs232 board.
May have to order one of those like you have to make life easier.
