Magnum Inverter battery temperature sensor question...

As you know the Magnum Inverter has a phone plug style (inverter side) cord on their Battery Temp Sensor which runs to the sensor that mounts to a neg battery post.  In getting organized for my new battery bank swap, I am going to place it midway up the side of what I anticipate will be one of the warmest batteries (based on positioning of the batteries).

There isn’t any other reason the Magnum’s sensor would need to be connected to the post is there?

Al,

Replied to your PM,   and did not save a copy ...

Would recommend NOT using a battery lug as the mounting point for any TempSensor.

This is a warmer part of the battery   --  heat rises,   and any voltage drop in the cable lugs will further increase the temp error.

Furthermore,  using a lug mount,  the sensor can be exposed to acid vapor and splatter.   This acid effect can be pronounced as the batteries age.

IMO,   place all sensors on a single battery in the center of the pack.  Mount on the smooth side of these Surrettes,  below the handles,   mid-way down the side.   Cover with Styrofoam sheet,  about 1.5"  thick.   Hog out a relief in the sheet,  for all sensors.  This will allow the sheet to be taped down to the case,   and will not permit ambient air to leak inside.

Just use some good tape to mount the sensors and the foam.

IMO,   Vic

Thank you sir.

Just wasn’t sure if the Magnum temp sensor did any other ‘sensing’ and may require the post mount.  :-)

Appreciate your help.
