What is the best home wind turbine?
« on: January 18, 2020, 01:07:45 PM »
Hello,

Assuming the Midnite w/ Clipper is the best for controls. What wind turbine is the best?

A few years ago a vertical turbine was said to be the best design. I’m looking for build quality with cutting edge design.

Thanks!

Buying one off the shelf - http://www.jacobswind.net/products
Jacobs older products (from the 1920's) have been reliable.

If you want to DIY, I've liked the Axial Flux kit/plans  http://scoraigwind.co.uk/

Controller gear  http://www.windsine.org/

and thoughts on vertical mills   http://scoraigwind.co.uk/2016/12/what-is-it-about-vertical-axis/

Don't get an Istbreeze 2000.  I have had nothing but problems with mine and its controller.  Their tech is in Germany.  Absolutely the worst technical department on the planet.  The max rpms is 1000.  That is 20 mile per hour winds.  I get gusts up to 40 regularly.  The breaking system is obnoxiously loud and vibrates terribly.  Poor quality.  The controller has never read power or amperage at all and the tech guys gave me the run around for over a month diverting questions and stalling.  They never answered any of my questions or responded to the many emails I sent them.  They would not answer their phone or video chat. They refused to send me a shipping label for return of a defective product.

The only plus is that it will produce power at 5 mile per hour winds.

My buddy has a Missouri wind and solar.  Their owner will call you in minutes and walk you through everything by explaining things you need to know.  I will be buying another from them soon.  They also are rated for very high winds but don't get turning until 10-15 mile per hour winds.

This is literally the opposite of anything I have seen. There is a guy on Youtube called "toys for watts". He does very honest reviews of turbines on his channel. His Istabreeze i1500 has been spectacular for him. Based on his recommendation I purchased an istabreeze Heli 2.0. I have nothing negative to say about the Heli other than I need to pick a better site for it. Up until this point Toys forwatts is not very impreesed with the missouri turbine. Plus the owner of Missouri Wind has an absolutely horrible reputation!!
