Videos of Load Testing B-17 with Air Compressors
« on: May 23, 2021, 12:47:22 AM »
Well....been living in a cave the past year. Came out and discovered a lot of changes....some good, some bad...

The bad.. Have not been by Midnite in over a year..:( The good, stopped by yesterday! and got video of some load testing of the B-17 and the Rosie powering up Air Compressors.

B-17 videos here:

I got the deluxe kit, it had a solar cell and a meter.

Midnite has an Interactive Booth for Trade Shows. I got to play around with it when nobody was around yesterday....:) It's fully functional. Next time up I'll do a longer more detailed video. Hot swap modules etc. :) The Air Compressors are right around 1.2kW load ea. once up to running speed. All four are powered up when the switch is flipped.

Next vid I'll start with just one module, this vid has 4 online, then load it up to rated output, 3kW of lights, then fire up the four pumps. I've seen this done so I know the B17 can easily handle the multiple pumps surge with just a single power module. :) Stay Tuned!

Sorry, no longer version video yet. I was up at Midnite a few days ago, but you know the "you break it you bought it" term? Well...technically I didn't blow anything up...but I did manage to "break" not 1 but 2 B17 modules while messing around with their trade booth....:)

It worked out to "you break it you fix it" :) No argument from me! boB said it was just the internal DC fuses that let go. Turns out both modules had not yet been updated from 60 amp to 100 amp fuses. The early modules used the 60 amp but as the output rating kept moving up...they went to the 100 amp fuses. They are soldered to the PC board and under normal use will never let go. The OCP, Over Current Protection circuit, prevents this issue from coming up.

Tried to "blow up" the modules after the fuse update but no go.....:(

I was curious what the surge load was with those 4 compressors? boB! Lets get some hard data! 15kW is the surge when all 4 come on, they are all wired up together. 7.4kW running load. Just a pair of modules will do this! Pics and vids next week!

This an AC side B17 fuse, but the physical size/style is the same as the DC side that were updated.

I would prefer that fuse to be more like 30 amps actually

This was a B17 AC voltage regulation test I did while visiting Midnite last week. It's tight! :)
