No smoke !
Nope! No smoke.
That's Andy, the primary engineer working on the Rosie, that you see hesitant to flip the switch. The video was the first time he has tried starting up the air compressors. Rosie has consistently fired up four 1500 watt 120V light bulbs simultaneously no problem on only 1 leg! And then holds that load, 6kW easily! With an aimed for rated output of 6kW @240V Rosie got some serious muscles, and appears she will have lots of headroom/surge capacity.
Keep in mind incandescent bulbs are a dead short when first powered on. High resistance of the tungsten filament until it's glowing at 100%. So....the surge, though brief, is HUGE! Robin or boB can correct me if I'm wrong but I think they said around 18kW or so is what Rosie sees initially...again, on only one of her two 120V legs!
The massive heat sink may end up being downsized. The fets in Rosie and the B17 run much cooler under loads than anticipated. Fans will still be in both inverters but looks like you won't be hearing them much. Exceptions of course are environments where ambient temps are very high.
Not having been up to MS in over a year, Covid kept me in my cave, I was happy to find big changes/advances on the Inverters as well as expansion of the manufacturing capacity that will be required once the production lines are running at full speed. I'll post pics of their newest building and assembly lines here or someplace on the forum soon. When far too many companies have failed due to Covid and the economy crashing, I am VERY happy to report Midnite is not on that list. Robin has his foot on the accelerator and a firm grip on the wheel!
