Well....been living in a cave the past year. Came out and discovered a lot of changes....some good, some bad...

The bad.. Have not been by Midnite in over a year..:( The good, stopped by yesterday! and got video of some load testing of the B-17 and the Rosie powering up Air Compressors.

Videos of Rosie here: One pump

and here: Two pumps

B-17 Vids in B-17 sub forum.
I got the deluxe kit, it had a solar cell and a meter.

No smoke !

Nope! No smoke.

That's Andy, the primary engineer working on the Rosie, that you see hesitant to flip the switch. The video was the first time he has tried starting up the air compressors. Rosie has consistently fired up four 1500 watt 120V light bulbs simultaneously no problem on only 1 leg! And then holds that load, 6kW easily! With an aimed for rated output of 6kW @240V Rosie got some serious muscles, and appears she will have lots of headroom/surge capacity.

Keep in mind incandescent bulbs are a dead short when first powered on. High resistance of the tungsten filament until it's glowing at 100%. So....the surge, though brief, is HUGE! Robin or boB can correct me if I'm wrong but I think they said around 18kW or so is what Rosie sees initially...again, on only one of her two 120V legs!

The massive heat sink may end up being downsized. The fets in Rosie and the B17 run much cooler under loads than anticipated. Fans will still be in both inverters but looks like you won't be hearing them much. Exceptions of course are environments where ambient temps are very high.

Not having been up to MS in over a year, Covid kept me in my cave, I was happy to find big changes/advances on the Inverters as well as expansion of the manufacturing capacity that will be required once the production lines are running at full speed. I'll post pics of their newest building and assembly lines here or someplace on the forum soon. When far too many companies have failed due to Covid and the economy crashing, I am VERY happy to report Midnite is not on that list. Robin has his foot on the accelerator and a firm grip on the wheel!

Yeah, the normal typical surge for incandescent light bulbs is around 10 times the running wattage rating but I think some of these are even worse !

Ten times is plenty enough !

The B17 single 120V singe leg (half of an inverter 240V module) surging the start of those 2 compressors (Full of air 100PSI) is around 5.8 kW for a couple tenths of a second.   It appears to be able to hold that for several seconds and 3kW per leg for more than 10 minutes  (rated at 1.5kW per leg).
Not sure if we will allow that much on the released or beta version but it doesn't blow up !  These things seem to be very rugged.

But that's a single module.  More than one module will normally turn on during a surge like these in the video and stay inverting until the surge has passed and then some before they turn off.

Definitely going in the right direction on all inverter and charge controller fronts !

These are the 1500 watt X Four 120VAC incandescent light bulbs Andy has been using for basic load testing of Rosie. boB uses them for hat hooks....

I will try my hardest to wait for this to be released got a year till I need it.  Too bad it can't go over 600V, wonder what the max PV array it can hold. Got 22 395W bifacials looking for a home to plug into.

This is the Inverter sub forum....Charge Controllers, 600 Volt ones, are upstairs...:) Hawks Bay and the Barcelona. The B17 Inverter will have a 600 volt MPPT CC plugin module.

Very nice test results (we expected no less, you guys build quality hardware).  Is there any update on the timeline?  Are you close to Beta testing?

Anytime you have purple Crown Royal draw bags hanging in the R/D lab, that's got to be on hell of a place to work!

looking for a Rosie with good legs to spin up a MYERS PQP 10 or 15 centrifugal water pump   ( 1 or 1 1/2 HP) with a 34Amp  "locked  rotor" value.

Looks like , by the tests, that the Rosie will be able the task at 115V, let alone at 240V....

Any comments boB?

I don't know the values for this pump ?   Maybe you could measure it ?

Send us one and we can test it first ?   :)

We are actually running a 1.5 HP submersible pump right outside the room as part of the Rosie loads.

I can't see it though because it is stuck down a culvert filled with water.
