Output Cable Connections To HB

Trying to stock up on supplies to connect to,  and accommodate a new HB (or Barcelona), which is in the future, here.

Looking at the specs for HB and Barcelona Battery Boxes,  2/0 AWG is the largest cable that is speced.

Had assumed that there might be studs on these large CCs, that would accept a lug, that was crimped onto the Fine Strand cable,  but that was a guess.

How does the battery (output) cable connect to these BBs?  If studs, what size?
Is Fine Strand cable acceptable for these connections?
What size conduit for the input and output cables (if used)?

Am asking this here, as others may also wonder.  Thanks,  these ARE exciting times!   Vic

Hi Vic, o don’t know what is covered in the manuals. Heck, I’m not sure they are even on the website yet as real units are not quite shipping. We have 5/16” studs on the Barcelona and it’s breaker box. The snap on battery caps will only accept 2/0 ring terminals, but you can use larger if battery caps aren’t installed. Then on the breaker box we have a large hole for conduit(1.5”) I think. We also have the same battery terminals if you don’t want to use conduit. In addition to the snap on battery caps, we also provide a 5 sided snap on cap so you can’t stick things up the battery caps and get electrocuted by that scary 48v. So, like Burger King, you can have it your way.
We are still messing with firmware code on the HB and Barcelona. We are down to making arc fault and ground fault behave, some system level stuff, data logging and aux o inputs and outputs. So, production units should be shipping in a week or two. That is when we should finally receive the official ETL listing too. They finished all testing 5 months ago!!! We may actually receive the ETL reports on the Rosie before the Barcelona. We are shipping Rosie’s in limited quantities now. Like the HB and Barcelona the Rosie is awesome.

Hi Robin,

Sounds like you have thought of everything for the connections,  and everything else, too.  It's the MidNite way of doing things.

Initially will probably not use conduit,  but just wanted to have the needed material on-hand.  And get a better idea of how things will go together on the new Energy Wall (which is only 7'6" X 8',  but this is a fun project.

2/0 for the output side of things is probably OK here,  as the NEC current ratings seem SO conservative.

You are making such great progress on all of these new products,  it is amazing, and must be an exciting time for all involved!

Thank you very much,  take care,   Vic
