Title: Charge controller with solar panels and wind turbine
Post by: James king on November 21, 2023, 02:00:22 PM
It's been quite a while since I've been on here so this question is probably redundant.
I'm putting a system together using 32 volt panels and a 400 watt wind turbine.
My last system I used a Classic 150 but it was just a few 12 volt panels.
I want to charge a bank of 12 volt batteries no grid tie.

Hi James.

Not sure what you are asking here ?

You want to use one Classic for wind and another for solar ?

How high of voltage did your turbine go up to ?  Did you use a Clipper of some sort ?

What I want to do is step the 32 volts down to 12 volts plus hook up the wind turbine, is there a single unit that can do that or do I need two separate units.
The wind turbine is 12 volt

The wind turbine can connect to the 12V battery and the Classic can take a 12V nominal or higher solar PV and bring it down to the 12V battery.

The Classic has an auxiliary output that can trigger a dump load to keep the wind turbine from over-charging the 12V battery.  You would still have to provide the dump load and its power switch which can be a solid state relay.

Is that kind of what you are looking for ?

I believe you've got me in the ballpark, I don't think I'll put in the wind turbine at first and see if the panels will provide enough juice first.
Thanks a lot.
