close up pic of 'small' Vestas turbine

got this forwarded from a former associate of my Wife.

1.8 Mw makes one feel quite small at 480 W (PV setup)

"then was hired by Vestas Corp, (Danish company - world's top manufacturer / installer of wind turbines). I've taken over as site manager for the largest wind turbine power plant in Saskatchewan 83x1.8 million watt machines ? very interesting ? some example photos bs below.

Is that attached document correct?  Is it supposed to be .docx? 

When I tried to open it, my system didn't know what to do with the file extension.

Edward, yes it (xxx.docx)  is the latest incarnation of Microsoft's 'word' program file format.

Thanks for the .doc file, Eric.  Wow, that's a monster turbine! 

In that picture, it sure looks like those turbines are clustered close together.  Maybe it's just the perspective of the picture, but they seem really close to one another.  We have a wind farm nearby here and the turbines are spaced far apart.  Even though they are spread out quite a bit, I hear that they even shut down turbines at certain times to prevent creating turbulence for other turbines that are in a better position to generate power under certain wind conditions.  I believe that it's all computer controlled.  In any case, it sure looks like those Vestas are crammed together.

probably a function of the aperture used , the length of the telephoto lens and the angle at which the shot was made at (out  of a helicopter?).   the other pic showed a wind farm, may not have been the same one, and they are well spaced...

I was thinking it must be sort of an optical illusion.  With wind turbines that expensive, I'd expect they would set them up properly!

I saw a wind farm of the coast in the UK, 150 turbines.....what a sight

The largest wind farm I've seen is in western China, near Urumqi.
It is in a channel between two mountain ranges and seems to get pretty constant wind. I don't know the total generation capability, but there are hundreds of turbines.

You can see them on Google Earth at  43°34'12.76"N  87°51'29.78"E

Yes, the wind farm near Urumqi is a very impressive sight. You get an excellent view of it if you ride the train. The individual turbines a much much bigger when you get close up.
