EU Imposes Anti-Dumping Tariffs on Solar Panels Imports from China

With effect from June 6, EU has imposed anti-dumping tariffs on imports of crystalline silicon PV panels, cells and wafers from China.

Initially, the tariffs will be imposed at rate of 11.8% for two months while in the subsequent months it will range from 37.2% to 67.9%. However, the final tariffs will be determined in December.

Karel De Gucht, the European Trade Commissioner, said that their action today was an emergency measure to save business sector in Europe that was suffering badly. He said that it provides clear opportunity for negotiations.

After the announcement was made, China's Ministry of Commerce said that it would probe into wine imports while it opposed the EU decision on the statement. It is learnt that the duties imposed by EU are lesser than expected.

A spokesman from China's Ministry of Commerce averred that the China didn't want their relationship to be affected by the solar dispute. "Both sides understand the relationship is very important, having a trade dispute is quite normal when you have such a big trade flow. It's more likely they will reach an agreement", he added.

Prices of the solar panels have fallen by about 75% in the last four years in wake of severe trade divisions and falling material costs.

The French have opened Pandora,s box,,,, lets see how affordable French wine is in 2014 in China , where the elite have a taste for it ,,,,with 18 of 26  EU nations including Germany and the UK against tariffs Ill bet the Chinese will find a taste for other EU tipples,

If you pick a fight make sure you have a chance........dooh

Ill thought through by the French regardless of protectionism, I would  simply strive to be better and more efficient than them, with local jobs for the community. That is what every body else is doing, and making head way, although I might add some are just diverting production to a cheaper work base like OB now manufactured in India, I hope there reliability does not suffer as Im a fan ......  If you make the best then produce the best...corporate bigwigs only see the bottom line, sadly. Not the community.

WB no vino tinto por favor old boy !
