Just trying to get a feel for the new battery bank and the newly installed Whizbang Jr. Thought I would watch it for a bit before making any determinations of where to set the end amps etc.
So these are the readings I got today. The bank got about an hour and a bit of a bulk charge this AM from the gen, which I turned off when it got into absorb.
These Whizbang readings are when it was in absorb from solar charging:
noon - 16.5 amps
1 PM - 15.3 amps
1:40 - 14.7 amps
1:50 - 14.4 amps
3:00 - 14.2 amps
3:30 - 13.2 amps
I never saw it get lower than when it was hanging around 13.2 amps. After that I lost enough sun to keep it in absorb.
So, Rolls (Steve) did a video recently that suggests for us Rolls users to use 1.5% of the A/hr capacity to determine end amps. So with a new 1105 a/hr battery bank I was expecting to see the amps level out around 16.5.
What am I to make of the lower than anticipated amps across the shunt? New battery bank? That my end amps should or could be set lower than 16.5 amps?
My SOC was 1.265 and within +/- .005 across the bank. Just trying to make sense of things :)
Thanks...
Al, don't forget there is a break-in period of ~ 50 FULL CYCLES, IIRC.
You are probably going to see lots of variation as the plates "form" from discharge and recharge cycles.
Enjoy.
copy. thought that is what it might be :)
I think it all comes down to hydro readings. I can see EA amps level off at different current levels depending on what I have the V absorb set to. If I set the absorb voltage to 29.6v which is the trogan recommended - I see a lower amp when EA levels off BUT my batteries where not fully SG charged. So I could lower the EA and have the charge cycle run all day at very low amps OR raise the V absorb setting, and the EAs the batteries level off at is higher and batteries charged more completely.
It may very well have to do with the Rolls batteries breaking in. I've heard 100 cycles but 50 cycles might be right too.
Steve Higgens is the man when it comes to this kind of stuff. He definitely knows what's going on.

Copy. Thanks for humouring me, as it all helps me figure this stuff out ;)
When in the Classic ‘end amps’ menu....
I have my end amps set at 12a... what setting is reasonable for the ‘rebulk' setting? My float parameter setting is 27v.
Thanks.
Hi Al,
As you know, Rebulk starts a new charge cycle on a given day. Folks with reasonable battery Capacity, often do not wish to use Rebulk, as, every charge cycle takes its toll on battery longevity.
I do not know anyone that uses Rebulk. In special situations it can make sense.
All, IMO, FWIW, Vic
Thanks Vic.
No, I did not know that. ::)
So just leave it at the default setting then I guess?
Thanks much.
Hi Al,
Yep, unless you feel the need for Rebulk, would just leave at 8V, which disables if ... IMO, Vic
