Title: Kid intermittently not charging
Post by: EW Zuber on February 19, 2019, 05:16:23 PM
A customer has a newly installed Kid controller and sometimes it does not charge. If the B+ fuse is pulled and reinstalled it will start a new charge cycle.
I am trying to get more information from the customer like, 'what charge mode does it indicate it is in'
I am wondering what the condition would need to be for the controller to think the batteries are already charged.

Most pertinent information, IMO,  is that this has happened two times. Once when his Whisper 1KW wind turbine had been running all night. The second time is when he ran a tank of gas through his Honda 2000i and started the charge cycle at night.  With the inverter set for 5AAC on a 24V system it probably ran for about 8 hours.
I had a customer with a Classic Controller that had this problem. I suspect that the controller is thinking the batteries are fully charged.

System details, batteries are 4 Troijan T105 in a 24V configuration about 1 year old. Solar panels are 3 REC Twin Peak series, as memory serves me I think they are around 260 watt panels for 780 watts total. We just put those up this winter at the same tome the Kid Controller was installed. So the Midnite controller has only been in service for a couple months. There is a small bank (4) of much older 130 watt panels running off a 60A OB. They are in the shade a lot this time of year so are pretty much irrelevant.
