Saw this on the Wind-Sun forum, and thought it was interesting.  I've got mostly CFL's in my house and 8 of the EcoSmart LED bulbs.  These new CREE bulbs look very good in terms of light output and energy consumption.

sent an email to the CREE people...  the one shown is not available yet, right, we have heard this one before, lots of hype...  Interestingly there are a lot of CREE sellers in the Seattle area but none south of that on the west coast as far as their  'Find a Dealer ' tool is concerned...

cheers

Interesting.  Did they give any indication when that bulb will be available?

For now, the $18 EcoSmart bulbs from Home Depot are a decent choice for me for lower light requirements.  They are a little dim.  A 60W equivalent would be better for certain places in my home.  I can't stomach the idea of paying $40-50 for a single bulb though.

their answer...

We have not announced if the TrueWhite Lightbulb will be commercialized.

that if in the first line is annoying, why did the make such a big to-do about it if it will not be for sale? Something is up...

That is odd that they would make such a big deal about it and then not sell it.  Perhaps their "patented" technology will require that the bulb cost $100 each so it's not feasible to sell commercially!  :(
