Title: New Top Level Category for Communications?
Post by: mcsarge on March 11, 2019, 04:50:38 PM
Hi, I have some information to share about setting up remote communications using a combination of cellular modem, router, external antennas and the like and I was thinking it might be good to have a top level category dedicated to setting up types of communications for a solar installation. I imagine that it might have sub-categories pertaining to the various different ways someone might want to connect their setup to the internet, be it using their home internet connection or a cellular connection or even a LoRA connection. Thoughts?

Did you look in the Homebrew / Open Source section of the forums here ?
Graham has been working on a couple of new things - one is an android running monitoring app that uploads to mqtt and then another android can see the same display - it doesn't need any ports opened up .  I tried it and it worked fine.
He is also working on another project that uses a ESP32 .
We also have some Node Red projects on there .

Yes,

I have been following all these pretty closely as I have a RPi up at my remote site. What I was hoping for was a category dedicated to just the communications hardware and techniques - Cellular, Sat., Cable, LoRA, etc. independent of the systems that will utilize the communications systems...
