Title: Recharging BB by generator and charger?
Post by: sigp2101 on November 19, 2018, 01:24:55 PM
Hi all,

Every time prior to topping up my BB with generator I disconnect all of the other components of the system fearing that if I do not do that may inflict some damage to controller or inverter.

Am I being silly.?

Not if you want to make sure all the generator power goes into the BB, otherwise no need to disconnect.

What  charger are you using ? How often? Do  you EQ?

A WBjr on the system would be useful so you can see exactly how many Ahr's go into the bank

Oh, the charger is 36V 25A golf cart charger.

No settings on it. It stops charging when it thinks system is full. No EQ options on it.

Sigp2101,

This type of charger does not have any voltage controls incorporated and cannot regulate voltage.
I would suggest running the charger without the loads first to discover the maximum voltage this charger delivers. Normally golf carts are charged when no Equiptment is on so no matter if voltage too high.

I would recommend a proper 3 or 4 stage charger for those batteries. They will live a lot longer, maybe twice as long.
