Title: Multiple MN5048DIY charge controller / inverters ?
Post by: Jaysus on April 24, 2022, 07:14:42 PM
Hello everyone. I made our first solar array last summer, a modest 2000 watt array to slow charge our plug in Hybrid.

Now I'm planning our homes off grid system next and had a question regarding the MN5048DIY charge controller / inverter combo units.

It says the units can take 5000 watts of PV input, and spit out 5000 watts AC @ 120v.

So my question is, can two of these units work side by side ? Therefore accepting 10'000 watts from a PV array and then either outputting 10'000 watts AC @ 120v or 5'000 watts AC @ 240v ?

Many thanks in advance for your answer.
Cheers

They could work on the same battery bank so you could have double the PV but they can not coordinate on the AC side, You coud feed two seperate load centers one from each unit but you would not be able to parallel them for 10KW in a single load center or set them as split phase for 120/240

Thank-you very much for the reply.

That's a shame, but it makes sense.

I saw the price on the DYI units and couldn't believe the value. I supposed they're more geared towards smaller homes that don't have 240v appliances or pumps.

Are there such a thing as a similar type of unit that can do double the PV wattage (or more) and has a stronger 240v inverter ?

Thanks again,
Cheers

A  120/240 VAC split phase version of the DIY is supposed to be here soon, if not here now ?

I haven't looked or asked lately.

You could connect a transformer to one inverter and create 240 split phase. Still cant mix with the other inverter though.
