Is there a way for a reset switch?

Some MODs possible?

Just if not possible to hard-reset the network part with a switch , possible for the complete midnite classic lite?

just better, then a "cold start" - for the complete system ...

Buy the MNGP it worth the money (IMHO) and boB has hidden a lot of features like NEW DAY to force the writing of the data before a reset.

here we are again ...

Last night the Classic did his reset, like all days before, but it does not help it in every case.
And - so it again was some weeks ago - now it does not response / send datas to the app.

The router can 'see' it, it is there, but I can not get datas from it.
The Midnite App searches for it, then tells me no device available.
The App from Graham also recieves no datas.

Man, there must be found a solution, this is an impossible thing!

So - how to reset network connection or what ever is going wrong in it on day without losing datas?
Must "power cycle" the system? ... man!

Just check again in the router, yes it is there listet and connected.

What is wrong with this device ???

The network code has some issues that have never been resolved. As of a few days ago Ryan posted a note saying that they would make two versions of the firmware available. That still has not happened and who knows when and if it will happen.

Suggest you read the whole thread. Not just Ryan's posts.

Here's Ryan's post  http://midnitesolar.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2652.msg25236#msg25236

It's so sad to read this, the frustration of those new(ish) classic users and your resigned view on the network fixed firmware ever being sorted out. I feel sorry for Ryan having to front up excuses. There just seems to always be something that is higher priority  :-\

binkino,

so the ethernet connection to your PC with local app works most of the time?
The Classic is a reasonably noisy device in the HF area when operating normally. This may be having an effect (or not) on your ethernet connection.  A few suggestions...
Keep the ethernet cable to the Classic as short as possible, use cat 6 cable
Put one of those ferrite beads on the ethernet cable or put the cable through a ferrite core. This will absorb noise
Consider a 30cm ethernet cable and connect it into a powered ethernet hub (2,3 or small 4 port type)
or connect the 30cm cable to a wifi bridge such as a common Linksys WET54G and use wifi connection to Classic

dgd,

thank you.

I just come home, and ... you guess it ... the App can not find the Classic.

Because the Classic is in the basement, and the router is in my apartment in ground floor,
I must use a long cable, ~ 15 meter

All devices in the system are well grounded

Ferrits are a good idea, I try this. I have enough :D
Possible this can help here.

Last year after installing the Classic, in my first connection, i used a second fritz.box (7270) and made a "wifi bridge" between the boxes. but wifi doesn't work very stable from basement to my home router.

If the ferrits did not help here, I will try a network switch between router and Classic

I have never been able to get a classic ethernet to work cleanly at the end of a 15 metre cat5 cable. Maybe its just me but a one metre cat 5 or 6 to a powered hub (not a switch) then the 15 metre cable to the router was a working solution.
I looked at the Fritz!box 7270 and its an ADSL/WAN/WiFi router and I cant see in its manual how to get two of them to work as a bridge on the same subnet but again maybe I have missed something.
A 15 metre range on a WiFi bridge should be dead easy. I would try a proper bridge such as a LinkSys WET54G. I have one of these working good from a basement to a third floor apartment where a LinkSys WRT45G router is located and the floors are reinforced thick concrete (there is a lot of rebar in there).
ANyway I suggest the cheap solution may be the $20 ethernet hub.

Hi dgd,

they call the bridge between the Fritz Boxes "WPS" ... there are also other solutions, but this is recommended by AVM

The cable with 15 meters makes no problems also a longer time with much data traffic between computers with full 100 mbit. But possible the Classic is a bit more sensitive.. I wait now how long the solution with the ferrites works

The direct "wifi distance" between the routers is not 15 meters, this is the way I must lay the cable.
In the basement, from the Classic, up to the ceiling along then next to the stairs one level up, under my door, then 2nd room where the router is.
But the connection from the wifi router to the basement is not so excellent, because the "reinforced concrete" (translated by google, hope it is correct)

So I can now report, that the ferrites helped (knocking on wood ... ok)
no knowing problems since last time.

So we can keep in mind, if someone has similar problems, just add some ferrites to the cable.

I overdrived it a bit haha
Ihave enough of them.
Added one direct after the classic, looped 2 times, then all ~ 2 meters one... (also looped 2 times through the ferrite)
At least there is the rolled up ring before the router, and a small one that clips only around the cable there.
