Title: Charging - I+V(batt)MAX?
Post by: psyfy on March 03, 2013, 06:41:13 AM
Hi guys,

We have a VRLA/Gel 192vdc/500Ah bank comprised of 80 x 12vdc cells;

Q.) Can any of your products (mods ok) accommodate charging this bank?

<=C20 would be fine.

Thanks,
Psyfy

using 25A @ 192 V nom.would need something in the ream of 275V to effect a charge, possibly more....  that's  25V above the upper input limit of a 250 series...

don't think it will work.

Unless you can find a charger to handle that voltage directly,  the only thing that I could
suggest is to use two separate Classic 250KS controllers on the two halves of the battery
bank.  That would require separate PV arrays, one per each Classic and also possibly
removing the internal MOVs (red disks on the underside of the power board) which are
not easy to get to without taking the Classic apart.

Also, the negatives can not be tied together including the phone cables.
Ethernet is magnetically isolated so there is a good chance that could still
work but we do not operate Follow-Me with the Ethernet cable yet.

So, it can be done (and has been done years ago) but I would first look for
another single charger solution first.
