Hi Crew,
I've changed my EA settings yesterday when absorbing and noticed after a while that the Classic start an EQ on its own (auto EQ disable :D). I had already noticed this behaviour two times but I was not sure. Maybe something to check closer.
Also as written in the manual, if one starts an EQ on Absorb, a Classic will return on absorb at the end of an EQ :o.
Maybe a float charge at the end of all EQs would be better.
It could be good to improve manual/auto EQ in next firmwares (auto EQ on float only), just a thought.
Erik
I caught mine doing this yesterday?
Firmware:
- Classic Rev: 1341
- Network Rev: 1122
Application Version 0.3.22
It had gone through absorb and seems it flipped right to EQ. The local App was running. Auto EQ disabled.
Never noticed this before and wrote it off as an anomaly until Erik posted. We seem to have different versions of the firmware so perhaps it is the Local App initiating it somehow? Like an unrequested force EQ button click?
Erik, was the Local App running when yours went into EQ?
Just FYI.

Allo Tom,
I do not remember if the loc app was running when it happened. I would say no because I was leaving and usually I use the App to check production datas once or twice a week (not grid-tie, a kw is a kw :P), I'm pretty sure that my laptop was off and as said it's the third times that it happens.
I've set EQ one hour just in case, but what I don't like is Absorbing after EQ when EQ starts during the Absorb charge, not great.
Erik
Tom, I think this can happen most likely when I change a setting and the Classic is not Resting (bulk or absorb). ex: EA or EQ time.
It was the same with double/triple day data. I will look at it closer the next time.
Need to change for the Beta FW.

Something's not right there. The manual is being re-done some so we'll make sure that is changed.
The Classic should only go back to Absorb if you manually stopped the EQ before its timer was up.
And it should not start an EQ all by itself ! I think I have only heard of this happening once before
and still do not know why. I couldn't repeat that action. If this is older firmware, a newer firmware should be
done if possible.
Thanks or the input, Musher !

You're right boB, if I remember it was when I stopped this EQ manually.

boB, I could not swear that it happened after I changed a setting but what I'm sure is that I had to stop these EQ manually three times without starting it manually or automatically ;D, I know that I could be a little alzheimer sometimes...

I almost forgot ! If you start the EQ from Absorb and stop it manually it should go to
Absorb. If you started the EQ from Float and manually stop it, it should go to Float.
It should always go to Float if it automatically stops because the timer was up.

Just keep an eye on it. If you get that to happen again, you can let us know and that would be great.
boB
boB, he just has to remember ;) ;) now what was that again?
boB,
Just started an EQ today. I've increased EQ time from 1 hour to 3 hours => Enter and re-checked Charge Time before to see if my setting had been taken.
Charge Time was showing 3 hours, ok right, I started EQ, no problem.
Re-check Charge Time=> Timer after a while and saw that it was counting down from 60 minutes.
I had already noticed this behaviour 10 days ago but was not sure.
Today I'm pretty sure that my Classic is an opportunistic controller ;D.
Erik
boB,
I have just seen that EQ Charge Time was right with 3hrs but the classic is counting down EQ from 60min (previous setup) :o.
Hoo, I would prefer a cap with a MN Kitty logo... :P

Not sure what is happening there, Musher.
I just tried it here. It was on 1 hour and I changed it tto 3:00 (180 minutes) and it is now
counting down from 3 hours (178 minutes 08 seconds) now while saying EQUALIZE.
Maybe you need to re-start the EQ from scratch ? Or did you say that you did that ?
Would love some MN hats with Kitty on them !

boB, did you try it with the last beta or with the 1181FW? I'm still on FW1181.
I was on float when I changed from 1 to 3hrs and started this EQ, did you started it on absorb or float?
Did you try it and wait 10 to 15mn to see if it was still counting down from 180?
Mine was showing 3hrs on EQ Time and 58mn on EQ Timer, both at the same time after two minutes.
At the end of the 58mn when floating, I changed it again from 3 to 1hr and the classic started a new EQ on its own again. But at this time, Time and Timer were both right showing 60mn. Loc App/laptop were not running.
I'm going to upgrade to the beta and test it.
Erik
I started from Bulk and so it went to EQ MPPT and then finished the 3 hours
and then displayed EQ DONE. I checked its count down periodically to make sure
it was still counting properly.
I will try it from Float next.

boB, I've updated to beta FW and VMM this morning. I'll let you know the next time I will EQ.
Do you really want to let the classic with auto EQ on bulk charge only? Would it be so difficult to do manual/auto on float?
With PV lower prices and stronger PV systems, true EQ can now be done on solar only for off-grid people ::).
Just IMHO,
Erik

Auto EQ or plain old manual EQ can be started at any time if you have enough power.
If you limit it just to Float, then you possibly waste 2 good hours of good sun power when you could
be spending some or most of that time at EQ voltage.
There are only so many good sun hours in a day.

Hi boB,
Same problem on beta/FW 3-1-13
This evening, I was on float when I have decreased Abs Time a little and increased EA, clicked Enter and Back to main screen: the classic was starting an EQ on its own.
Is there something about it in the last beta today?

Thanks Musher. This is good information for me to check into.
Nothing in the latest beta code from today about this but with your new info,
maybe there will be before this new stuff is released ??
boB
PS... What was the approximate Absorb time and EA when you did this ?

Allo boB,
I changed Abs time from 3hr to 2hr30=> Enter =>back to EA, increase from 9A to 9.3A=>Enter=>Main menu=>Main menu=> Status.
The Classic started to EQ only one time after these changes were made.
I'm going to update to the last beta if that can help Andrew with mymidnite.

Hi boB,
I've installed several Classic this summer and all seems to have the same EQ problem than mine even with recent firmware.
The last time I was showing my custommer how to start an EQ on Classic and pressed the EQ button (not the up Arrow) it started by itself. Also, it's not that simple to modify EQ time setting, Classic only takes EQ length change on the next EQ cycle. I tried to explain him that the Classic works that way and that he has to be aware about it until a new FW fix it... but I was a little uncomfortable ::). It's not a real problem for experienced users but I would not bet that it would be the same for a newby.
Thanks,
Erik

Thanks Erik. We will put this on the todo list for making it easier to use.
Sorry, I just now saw this post.

No problemo,
Thanks boB
