Title: Wire size for panel mount 100A breaker
Post by: mofawayesu on May 13, 2013, 01:57:21 PM
What's the recommended wire size for the panel mount 100A breaker?  The epanel manual suggests using #6 for the 63A DIN mounts, #4 for the 80A breakers, but doesn't mention the 100A units.

Thanks!

100 amp should be #2 or #1/0 cable

It depends on where it is going. If it is in an E-Panel and going out to a Classic then #4 is what you want to use.

Thanks, Mike & Ryan.  The connection in question IS running between an epanel and a Classic, so #4 it is.  Having looked at some ampacity tables, some have noted higher rattings for THHN/USE-2 and the like.  Should it be THHN etc. in my case or does it matter?

Just be careful of stiff cable like THHN so that it doesn't break the posts off the breaker.

Routing it carefully should take care of that.
