Title: E-panel breakers
Post by: HawaiiDave on May 24, 2013, 03:17:43 AM
Greetings:  I am kinda green at solar systems and hoping I could get a little help with breakers. I just purchased a Magnum e-panel mne250alm for my solar system.
  I think I need:
1 mnedc80 amp 300 vac breaker panel mount for charger controller
1 mnepv40 amp 150 vac breaker panel mount for pv discount
1 MidNite Solar 277VAC AC Single Pole Circuit Breakers for 120 volt utility plug in for e-panel

Have
4- 255w pole mount panels (8.18 amp ea.)  mnpv3 combiner box wired a 48 volts  65' wire run   10 Awg pv
1-midnight classic 150
1-magnum MS2812 inverter 12volt
8-6 volt golf cart batteries
I am currently in Alaska and will be taking the e-panel with me to Hawaii in the near future and wanted to have it complete.
The system has worked great able to run regular ice box, washer, lights ect. Batteries charge up in about 3 hours.  drain to 20%

I think the voltage to charge controller should be changed, seems allot of work for controller to reduce down to 12 volt however not sure because it would max it out and then a little.. ? not sure

Any help would be really appreciated...

(saving up for a higher voltage inverter)

Thank You,
HawaiiDave

I would say you want the following:

MNEDC100, 100 amp / 150 vdc breaker for Classic to battery
MNEDC30, 30 amp / 150 vdc breaker for PV to Classic

I assumed the pv would be wired in strings of 2. So a 2 by 2 array.

The Epanel has an AC breaker going to the inverter for utility in. You can for sure add another in line before everything if you want though.
