Post by: SgtPepper on July 25, 2013, 07:34:41 PM
Just wondering what people think of Xantrex inverters?

nicknamed Brand X.  Depends on model but above average across the board

Looking at a pro watt sw 1400i, over kill for my AC needs but feel it's better to be too big than too small.

what size, type is your batt? how many watts in your array?  Charge Controller?
Too big may not be all that good...

1400 watts is not too bad for your system, but wouldnt be going much bigger. Like you  i originally  thought bigger = better, run it lighter loaded=last longer. But the down sides are :
- bigger inverter=bigger standby draw.
- bigger inverter=bigger mess if you accidentally leave something on.
- bugger inverter=bigger wire losses, esp at 12 volts

Thanks for the replys guys, all good.

Yes she has a standby draw of <1000 mA, I intend to turn it off at the breaker in the evenings, how long that will last , I don't know.  ::)

I have a total of 700 watt AC draw all together which will never all be on at once.

My Battery enclosure and CC/inverter/ breaker enclosure, if all goes to plan will be next door to each other so I'm hoping cable length will be about 300-500mm.

Hey zoneblue you're in NZ here's the link to where i'm getting it they have a sale on til midnight Sun, $1000.00 off the 1800 watt model.

yeah actually the Xantrex inverters is nothing but its XW Series brings the next generation of inverter/charger to market. and also It is a Hybrid Inverter / Charger that is a true sine wave, 120/240-volt AC, split-phase, inverter/charger. It incorporates a DC to AC inverter, a battery charger, and an AC auto-transfer switch.

xantrex inverters are good and yes they have cool features but so does outback, sma and magnum .but if you were looking at price, performance and quality as a all in one package (which most of us if not all look for )then yes i would say xantrex is very good.i have a 2000w pure sine wave that performs great planing on getting the xw 4000 or 6000 watts when i upgrade to 48v.seem good for the price compared to others. i have had experience with the brand so i trust it.only thing i dont like about them right now is the mass production in china that xantrex has done.hope midnite bring out a few to compete soon.
