Title: Buzzing fan in classic
Post by: Nashville on November 11, 2013, 02:04:05 PM
Hi Guys!
I have two classics. One of them has a fan that is starting to buzz. Any thoughts?

If you have one of the new chassis the fans come out the back and are suppose to be held in place with a dab of silicon to keep then quite.

If you have the older chassis removing the fans require removing some boards.   :'(

It could also be the fan rattling around in the "Turbo" (top right corner) part of the case.

Shut down the classic, Pop the fan cover off (a light "whack" with the butt end of a screwdriver usually works), remove the fan, apply some silicone on 3 sides (not the front) of the fan,  place fan back in slot, replace cover,  turn the classic back on.

2 - sided tape works in a pinch also.

Cheers,
Lou

Thank you for your reply.
I think mine are the old version. I also noticed the black bars that holds the FETs to the heat sink are cracked. Weird.

There should be a sticker on the phone jacks above the black bar saying that cracking is normal and OK for that bar.

There's plenty of structural metal inside of that bar.
