Title: Firmware Update Issues
Post by: menalice on January 21, 2014, 12:31:00 PM
I have installed the Classic 150 and the Whizbang Jr and have visited the website and attempted to update the firmware.  Following the directions, I power down the Classic, attach the USB to the Laptop, select the desired download and power up the Classic - soon I get an error "Com8 is busy or in use" - the download never begins.  It anyone has tips, I'm interested.

A little more information might be helpful. What make and model of computer are you using for the firmware update? What OS are you using?

The computer is an ASUS Laptop, running Windows 7.

I see where it indicates that the USB driver has to be installed but I see no link for the driver and I am guessing this might be the issue.

My advice is go back and start from the beginning, theres a step where you need to configure the com port. The instructions havent ever let me down.

There are many places that I would like to go back to the begining and start over (lol) and this may be one as well.  I have deleted the MidNite download, gone back to the http://tinyurl.com/mwqu54d and downloaded it again, accessed the update and do not see the "step to configure the com port".  ???

This really is a case of RTFM.
In the software section on MN web site there is a 'Windows 7 Firmware Install Instructions'

Here is the Windows 7 instructions. I think these may help. You do need to follow all the steps though http://www.midnitesolar.com/firmware/Firmware_install_Windows7.pdf (http://www.midnitesolar.com/firmware/Firmware_install_Windows7.pdf)

Now if that fails I suggest calling in and asking for Mike, Mat or Myself

Not sure  how you deleted the MidNite firmware update, but you want to uninstall it using the uninstall program in the c:\MidNite directory. That will remove the software and registry settings and let you go through the install sequence as shown in the instructions provided by Ryan. Do not try to use control panel Program for uninstalling go directly to the MidNite folder and look for the uninstall program there.
