Title: Help with designing system
Post by: eastpoint turbine on January 26, 2014, 12:19:12 PM
 Hi to all for 2014
I'm looking for help with a system for a  "friend",  he wants to be  "off the grid". Average monthly bill is 475kwh,  we can work no. of panels to charge/recharge the batteries . Based on 475kwh
475/30=16 kwh /day   what we are trying to work out is what size battery we would need to take us through the night. Our sun here is enough to recharge the batt daily
  Thanks.

In one word,... BIG.

To give a good answer we need to know the overnight loads and the daylight loads and the peak loads during the day.  the average is a good starting point to understand what may be needed but the peaks are the real problem.

Thee first place to start getting onto a PV off grid system is to do a conservation audit and see what savings can be made going to more efficient appliances, lights etc.

BTW where are you situated as the weather has a big impact too.?
