I finally got the LA to connect to my oldest Classic, #647.
After I changed the "Battery Voltage" from 12V to 24v, as the battery is 24V, (also found on page 6 of the system) I shut down the LA and computer, everything was running fine. Just before we left I went to do a final check and found the MODE=OFF. I reset it to ON and left.
This is the second time MODE has changed to OFF. The first time prompted me to do a FW upgrade to V1849 ... which was when I discovered V showed as 12V on page 6.
What would cause this MODE = OFF?
In this case it would turn off when you changed the nominal battery voltage as a safety device in case you did not mean to change to a higher battery voltage
Thanks Ryan, so it is normal Op. procedure for the shutdown.
Now that I have that part sorted, a VMM is next and I will see if it goes back to 12V. I am thinking that the 12v is a remnant from the refurb process done on this unit Cl#647
WB,
I have that situation as well as I have only two truly good charge controllers which I have to swap between systems. If you commission a Classic on a 12 volt system then swap it to a 24 volt system it will remember that 12 volt number even though you go into the charge screen and change voltages to what you want. It does not seem to hurt the Classic, but to keep all values current I always do a VMM, then a power down , remove from 12 volt system, install into 24 volt system, do another VMM, now all values programmed in are gone as well as info that the Classic stored when starting as a 12 volt system. Of course I need to program all values for the current system back into the Classic. Way over complicated but I really need two Classic 150's or maybe a Classic and a pair of kid's
I keep a chart of sets at each location for each battery set.
I have been struggling with cheap charge controllers for several years now, but things have improved vastly using the Classic n kid combo. Now to budget more of the good ones.

Ah Ha, thanks TD.
1 down and a few more to go I think. Great toys but one has to learn their habits slowly...
I still have a KID waiting to be commissioned next.
WB,
Glad to help, I found this forum and decided that it was MidNite for me, I was wavering between the Morningstar and the Outback when on Christmas Eve some MN user had difficulty and the user group chimed in and solved the problem. Qualified answers 24/7/366, now that is hard to beat!
