Title: Value of used Trace SW4024
Post by: tecnodave on June 25, 2014, 04:35:33 PM
I have found a used Trace SW4024 (no suffix)  inverter along with more items that someone has purchased and not installed due to lack of qualified installers and lack of knowledge.
I want to make a reasonable offer but we both know that they will not recover their investment.

I have a general idea what the items are worth but a bit of help will help

Pile of goods consists of:

I ea Trace SW4024 in slightly used condition built 2 nd quarter '98
6 ea Sharp NE170U1 solar panels 170 watt, 72 cell poly panels new in box....not legal today as have MC-3 connectors and Sharp no longer produces 72 cell panels.
4 ea Uni-Solar  thin film panels 64 watt,  22 cell? 18.7 Vmp, well used , have junction boxes
1 ea. Trace C-35 PWM controller, well used
1 ea. Trace C-40 PWM controller with LCD display cover

I have already recovered their  battery set on the way to scrap yard for $20.00. 4 ea Rolls S-530 RE that sat for 2 years no charge, they are recovering from this injustice rather nicely, but in any case I have 4 cores worth $70. Ea here in CA. at the minimum.

They have spent a lot of monies due to bad advise and I do not want to "burn them" as others have already done.

Their home is not solar feasible due to our local building department. Permits and fees >$15,000

Thanks......td

10 cents a watt?

Weren't we talking about 64w Uni-solar panels in another thread? Nope they are 85's too bad.

WB,

Yes we were discussing Uni-Solar in another thread, I consider them at little or no value in this deal, they are just a bit nonstandard, thin film, flexible, 22 cell???? , not very efficient.

I'm looking at the Sharp 170 watt total 1020 watts and the SW4024, the rest is just some more candy,....I think we are at $1988 their last offer to sell and they keep the Uni-Solar

Upsides, never seen a dead Sharp , 72 cell , matches my Suntech's, killer inverter

Downsides, Sharp's have MC-3 connectors???.....Schnieder is not known for supporting last month's model.....?.....IMHO!

If the SW4024 fails can you get parts?

That is the biggest question I have, I've cooked enough FET's I'm not worried about that, the boards are another issue. Schneider......dba....Xantrex is not known for real good customer support from this division.  I stock $1,000's of Schneider's other division parts , SquareD , Telemenique, Multi-9, etc and get awesome support in those products but they have not been forthcoming with support from the Xantrex division. I am sorely disappointed and dismissed their solar controller due to this issue.

I think a Outback at $1440 would be a better deal than the Trace SW at $1000...support....parts...etc.
Also would pick the Outback over the Connext.....same issue.

I bought Dynamote Inverters knowing that this would be an issue but at $200 for heavy 3200 watt unit, worth the gamble, I can fix analog and digital but on micro-controller controlled units that is another story all together.
