Title: Easy Reset
Post by: off-grid-geeks on September 29, 2014, 07:43:35 PM
What is the possibility of adding a 'Reset/Reboot' option on the menu?
As I understand it, there is no manner to do this at present, the only option is a power cycle via removing all power to the controller.

As the network stack occasionally locks up, it would be great to be able to reset or reboot the controller, rather than having to wait until midnight for the auto-reset feature to kick in.

Since the controller already has the ability to reset/reboot itself using the midnight feature, all I'm asking for is to also include a 'Reset/Reboot Now' option on the menu.

Thanks!

The present way to expedite a midnight reboot is to go to the LOGS menu and then DAILY...

When  in the DAILY text logs screen (not graph), hold down the LEFT ARROW key and then hold
the ENTER key while the left arrow is being pressed.  Hold it for about 1 second or so and it
~should~ force a "NEW DAY" and make it reset in about 5 seconds.

This assumes that the Auto-Rst tweak is enabled that makes the Classic reboot at midnight.

Yes, there could also be a menu item to do this but this is about as easy for now.

Having said this, the networking crashes appears to be fixed on the most recent and maybe back
a couple revisions of firmware.  What is your firmware version in your Classic ?  We would like
to know about any problems that are still out there with this and what versions of software/firmware
are susceptible.

Thanks for that tip, its good to know.
But by forcing a 'new day', won't that mess up all of the stats for the present day? All the cumulative stats for the day?

I believe I am on the latest firmware, first thing I did out of the box was to update it.
Firmware:
- Classic Rev: 1849
- Network Rev: 1839

Using the local ap on my pc, I keep getting disconnects, and that is the only instance running; I'm not using any other utility or any apps on my smart phone, so I know its not butting heads with another connection.

Usually I can reconnect, but eventually during the day I get to a point where I can no longer connect with the app. When this happens, mymidnite.com also no longer gets data from my Classic.

Oddly enough, I can still ping the classic, I just can't connect to port 502 and get data.

I am running a static network configuration.

It is because of these daily loss of remote access ability that I was hoping for a way to reset/reboot (and without reseting any logs or timers etc.).

Thanks!

You just get two entries for the same day. The entry associated with the NEW DAY will have the time that the NEW DAY was entered. The stat totals will be updated. The second entry would occur at the default 23:59 and include the stats totals for the last segment of time which are also add to the LT totals. So the LT totals are correct. If you don't use the NEW DAY feature and you power off you lose the data accumulate to time of power off and would only have a partial day of data added to LT totals.

Off Grid Geeks,   you are using version 1849 of Classic code and getting a lot of resets of the Classic ?
Or disconnects of the Local App on the PC ?

Might be something else going on ?  It has been kind of stable lately regarding that sort of thing.

Hmmmmm...
