Title: Latest version of Classic 150?
Post by: asdex on October 06, 2014, 02:55:53 PM
Hi, just going to order a classic. Is there a latest model or version number so I can make sure I'm getting new stock with the latest software etc?
Thanks,

Don't think you have any choice.
I would imagine all distributors and resellers of Classics would rotate their stock so that the Classic you get is the oldest one they have available.
So the only way you can get a later or latest Classic is to buy from a supplier that sells a lot of them. (eg NAWS, AltE, etc..)

Hi, thanks for that info.
Also I was looking at getting the WzBJr as well. I see what it does and it gives some useful information but not sure if its worthwhile. It cost NZ$100 and I'm not sure if that includes the shunt.
Thanks

My understanding is the the full classic comes with a voucher for a free Whizbang.  You have to get your shunt seperately, deltec 500A from Naws.

Thanks, that sounds hopefull if some are shipped with the WBJr. I don't think the voucher applies in New Zealand. I'll order mine and see what happens. Thanks,

For midnite gear in nz the two main options i found are independent power, or naws + youshop.  Depending on your taste for after sales support.

If the Classic comes with a WBjr then I seem to remember the box had a sticker.
You could ask your supplier if it has this sticker on box
Also Mike at Able Solar in Auckland, he uses Classics in his own RE system so can provide excellent advice/support if Able sells Classic to you. They can also sort out the WBjr and Deltec shunt etc..

Hi, thanks for your reply regarding the Able Solar Classic's. I'll get a price from them.
I think I remember getting my first two panels and C40 controller from then in 1997/8. The Solarex panels are still going strong. the charger died this year.
Cheers,

That's good, can't beat a free WBjr  :)
Did you sort out a Deltec 500a shunt or perhaps an empanel  ???

Yes, I bought a shunt at the same time. Able Solar are very good to deal with. I also bought a Crydom 40A SSR from DigKey for diversion load. Alot cheaper than in NZ.

Thats interesting, never bought from digikey. Was easy enough? Which SSR did you get? I need one as well, and the 60 odd bucks jaycar want does seem high.

RS are now freight free in NZ, which is good, do use them from time to time.

I bought the Crydom DC200D40C RELAY SSR 200VDC/40A 4-32VDC for NZ$151 free shipping. It was very easy to do. Best price in NZ was around the $180 from Element14 or $238 from RS.
Digikey is free shipping for orders of NZ$125.00
