We have a sailboat with two 12 volt batteries. One is the starter and one is for the cabin and all other electronics.
We need a simple diagram to set up the system. Will the following diagram for two panels work if I disregard the 2nd panel?
Will the boat's battery selector switch get in the way? The two batteries are presently recharged by the alternator on the diesel motor.
I've also included the Samurai's wiring diagram from the boat's manual.
Thanks all,
Dirk
The biggest problem that I see other than disconnects is that the batteries are paralleled.
By not being separate the house and other batteries will both be drained.
you will want to use that Selector switch to control the charging of each battery , done one at a time.
Please tell us more about the other PV related equipment CC, Inverter, switches, Circuit protection, battery specs and brand, type, PV specs etc
I'm also adding the MNBTS Remote Temperature Sensor - for use with inverter or charge controller. Another 12 volt battery may be coming as well
At present we have (one) brand new Trojan 12v 76 AH Deep Cycle AGM Sealed Battery T24-AGM cabin battery and (one) 12v Group 24 Sealed starter battery circa 2012.

Is there a reason you picked such a large panel? It is 5 1/2 feet x 3 feet. How big is that sailboat?
You are aware that any shade on any part of a PV panel will MARKEDLY reduce its output... even from a stay ... it does not have to be a large shadow
2 smaller panels may work better depending on the mounting location .

Dirk ,
Our Sail boat has one main engine battery & 2 house batterys , the House batterys are TOTALLY seperate fron the engine starting battery But I can start the engine off the House batterys IF I push a bypass button (hidden) I / we /+ Royal We, built our vessel & system .
The battery selector switch should not involve the house & the Main engine systems with solar , you need to have them semi separate .

It was offered to me at the same price as the 150W, and l grew up in Texas, where bigger is rarely a problem…
🙀 😎
Hmm, same price? Wonder why they wanted rid of it?
