Hi,
So my apologies if this has been asked. I just grabbed the the MS local app form the app store for my iphone. It seems to work okay, but unlike most apps I can't zoom in on anything. It appears that "auto-detect" is set, as viewed thru a magnifying glass, but it appears it would be nearly impossible to change this setting or type anything (static IP say). I deleted and reloaded it thinking something wasn't right. Have I missed a step or something?
kind regards, ~ks
As far as I know that app was never finished.
The Adobe Air-based app on my iPhone (and iPad) is just plain awful. It's usable on Android and on OSX, though. I've not tried it in Windows, but can't imagine that it would not work there.
I do have to reboot either my Classic or the laptop (or both!) sometimes to get my connection via the LocalApp. I think the problem is two-fold; one is in the network code of the classic (they're working on it) and I think that Adobe Air is buggy when it comes to network connections since it's trying to use one piece of code to be cross-platform -- and that doesn't always work well.
These are only my opinions, however. I don't have all the evidence or access to the source code. This is just my gut feeling based on what I've seen in my installation with my hardware.
2twisty is absolutley correct. We are working on the networking code and I personally apologize for its unreliability for some users.
The employee in charge of porting the app to iOS has left and no one has replaced him. I have suggested we remove the Local App for iOS from the appstore, but there was an outcry on the forum so I have left it up with the caveat that if there are too many more complaints about it we will have to remove it as it costs too much in support and time.
Adobe AIR promised much and hasn't delivered for us. I regret the decision to use the platform but we are sort of stuck with it now with the 5-or-so person years invested in the Local App.
Thanks for the feedback.
For the record, my inquiry is not a complaint. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't overlooked an obvious (to tech savvy others) step, e.g. "...of course you have to upgrade your Adobe Air (or Java, or some other..) to version 2.xx before it will work."
The local app works great on my laptop (windows 8.1). If the app works better on some phones than other, I'd say leave it. Maybe improvements can follow. It might be helpful in the description to explain the limitations on an iphone.
Keep up the great work, products & support. There are always too few Indians, especially for the fun, creative, but not necessarily highest priority tasks.
kindly, ~ks
No problems, Kitestrings -- you are a paying customer, though, you have the right to complain! Thanks for being cool about it though! We are working hard to make everything right.
