Title: PV Shading Loop- back from the dead?
Post by: lowerlevel on January 28, 2015, 09:31:58 AM
Classic 150 is getting stuck in some kind of PV shading loop.
At full sun, pushing around 70-80 amps output, the Classic starts decreasing the input voltage from 70ish down to about 18v (flashing "Shading")... and then it pops back up to 80v and starts over again after about a minute.  The whole process takes about 3 minutes.  PV Wattage drops from about 1100 to 200.
This seems to happen from about 11:30 to 12:30pm...  Flipping the breakers on the PV side seems to solve the problem- but it could just be that I am always doing that around 12:30pm?)
I have tested the panels at the combiner box and have one pair that is about 8% weaker than the rest.  I have shut that pair down and the shading warning continues.
System Specs:
12v battery bank.  (2v 915AH sun extender agm)
48v array. (8x 185w 24v suntech in series parallel.  86 VOC.  Current ambient temps at noon ~40F)
Classic 150 (Rev 4)
Classic rev: 1923
mppt mode: SOLAR w/ 3min sweep
LoMax enabled
Night Auto Reset enabled
Partial Shading Warning enabled
(no other features enabled)
WBJR installed
limits: Out amps 96   In Amps 99   Min volts 13   Max volts 15.5

I think I have 1 sunny day left before we get back into cloudy winter days, so hoping someone can give me some pointers to check while the sun is bright.
Network rev: 1839

If there isn't any real partial PV shading, then try this...

Go to the MODE menu and change it from SOLAR to  LEGACY  P&O  mode.

I think that will fix this.
