Title: Vbatt offset
Post by: thooker on February 01, 2015, 12:01:17 PM
I have the same issue as a previous poster:
http://midniteforum.com/index.php?topic=1186.msg9118#msg9118

I dont understand the answer, sorry boB!

I have the latest firmware, just downloaded and installed yesterday.

If I set the tweaks in the Local App, concerning the battery voltage, to say -.5 volts, the numbers to the right of the tweak show what the battery voltage should be.

However, the local app still reports the old, unmodified voltage.  My independent voltage monitor shows the same voltage.

It seems to me that the tweaked voltage is not actually being used by the system.

BTW, my system is currently in absorb, and the Local App shows the following:  On the round gauge, 29.4 volts.  My independent system shows 29.3 volts, and the tweak menu shows 28.7 volts.  Also, the temp comp area of the local app also shows 29.4 volts.

I dont understand what value its using!

The Local App should agree 100% with the MNGP battery voltage display.  If not, maybe there
is another Classic on the network ?

Well, I kinda wish that windfarmer would have gotten back on that post you referenced.

If you are having the same problem as he is, where you are adjusting the battery offset voltage
for that Classic and you don't see its meter change, this usually means that the CC is in
Absorb or Float or EQualize...  i.e., it would be voltage regulating.  So, at this point it is
not actually reading the raw battery voltage.  It is regulating to the set point voltage.
Even then, it would be temperature compensated voltage.  So here's what you do...

Turn the Classic's mode to OFF temporarily.  THEN make the adjustment.

If you change the voltage offset while the Classic is in voltage regulation, its displayed
voltage will not change BUT the actual voltage as measured on a meter will change.

What is the serial number of your Classic or when was it actually built ?  If it was a while
ago, then it may be that the internal factory offset  has not been set.  This offset is not
adjustable by normal MNGP or Local App menu adjustments but you can achieve the
same effect by adjusting the TWEAKS offset to about  +0.4 volts.  This is typically where
the factory offset sits.   THEN, using a Fluke meter or similarly accurate volt meter, adjust the
blue or gray trim-pot on the Classic control board to make the Classic's reported voltage
the same as the Fluke meter's reading.   This trimpot is just below the bottom yellow
inductor.  It's the only trimpot on the board.

Let me know if this helps.

The battery voltage on the MNGP is what the Classic thinks the voltage is.  The battery voltage on the
Local App should be displaying exactly the same voltage as that on the MNGP on the Classic.

The Local Amp might possibly read different than the Classic MNGP display only if it is not talking
with the Classic.  The Local App only reads the Clasasic every two seconds so it might be
delayed by that much which can sometimes show different values.  The MNGP remote display
reads the Classic about 5 times per second.

There is a temperature compensated voltage that the Classic is using as a "target voltage"...
It is not a voltage readout but just the charge set point voltage that is modified by the
battery temperature.

The voltage you see in the TWEAKS menu should be the same thing as the main status
battery voltage reading.  That is put there to make it easier to adjust so that you
don't have to go back and forth between the two menus.

boB,
Thanks, I will need to read the above posts carefully to digest it.  My S/N is CL249 I think.

Tracy,
In the local app battery tweaks after you set the offset did you remember to press the blue arrow box at the right hand side.
This will save the new setting and the app will start using it otherwise it will be ignored.
Just a thought  ;)

dgd, yes, I did remember to press that little button!  But, thanks for the reminder, it would not have been the first time I did something like that!
