Title: Pv string voltage?
Post by: Jweslock on May 01, 2015, 04:48:26 AM
Hi Members,

I have a question regarding panel connection configuration.

I have 6-100 watt 12 volt mono panels with  60 amp max 150 volt mppt controller. Can I connect the PV panels in a 36 volt pattern ( 2X 3 panels in series) to my combiner box to minimize my cable size for the run to the controller? Will the Mppt controller recognize the 36 volt configuration and convert to my 12 volt battery bank or can I only connect the panels sets in 12, 24, or 48 volt configurations. The controller specs are unclear.

Thanks

Simply put, yes, The Classic will convert higher PV voltage to whatever you select for nominal battery voltage.

You should use this tool for string sizing for The Classic:

http://www.midnitesolar.com/sizingTool/ (http://www.midnitesolar.com/sizingTool/)

You will need at least 1.5X nominal battery volts to use The Classic effectively.

A lot depends on the distance from panels to The Classic.

Others with more experience may be able to help if you have more in depth questions.

Best of luck with it.
