Title: Balance charger controller
Post by: stishsun on May 13, 2015, 12:58:33 AM
Hi :

I have a suggestion about the charger controller.

is it possible to develop balance charger for each battery ? currently most of charger controller is monitor the total volte, not individual cell, that will case some of cell under charger and some of cell overcharge, if the system can monitor each cell, if fully charged, stop charge the cell, if not continue to charge the cell till completed, that will balance / equalized all cell. to prevent overcharge or undercharge problem.

this balance charged is used very popular in Li-ION battery pack, I think it should needed in led-acid battery as well. because the battery is the core of the whole renewable solar power system.

I have often wondered this myself.  We go to a lot of effort to make sure each of the cells are of similar voltage so why not just add individual outputs? Obviously its harder and more expensive than it sounds.

Yep.  We've talked about a "battery balancer" for MANY years now.  6V and 12V.

This would be nice because then you could have as many strings of batteries in parallel
and even "tap" into the bottom 12V if you wanted to run a small-ish 12V load if you
have a 24V or 48V  system.

I had found one that looked like it should actually work that was affordable on the internet
not long ago.  It wasn't very high current though as I remember.

Can't remember whos' it was ?
